Calculate Body Mass Index

According to the NHLBI guidelines, determining whether or not you are overweight involves using three key measures:
1) body mass index (BMI)
2) waist circumference, which relates to abdominal fat
3) risk factors for diseases and conditions associated with obesity.

What is the Body Mass Index (BMI)?
BMI is a reliable indicator of total body fat, which is related to the risk of disease and death. The BMI is a measure of your weight relative to your height. The combination of your BMI, your waist circumference and information about your additional risk factors yields a general risk assessment for developing obesity-associated diseases. Here is a tool to help you calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI).

Below the "BMI Calculator" you will find a table of scores that is valid for both men and women (adult) but it has two noteworthy limitations:
It may overestimate body fat in athletes and others who have a muscular build.
It may underestimate body fat in older persons and others who have lost muscle mass.
